the brothers react to you losing love for them

a/n: I haven't opened this game in a while so it made me think about this angst!! enjoy it

Lucifer has this tendency to over analyse everything that goes around him and truth be told, you are no exception to that. Did you really think he wouldn't notice that you've grown doubtful of your own love? That you've suddenly found more and more excuses not to spend time with him? He can see how painful this is for you. Your eyes still sparkle when you see him and your heart skips a beat but somehow it lessens to where that shine becomes dimmed. He finds it funny, how, in his experience, it is humans who lose feelings quicker than him and those so much older. Lucifer has principles that he holds everyone and himself to - and one of those is lessening your burdens. Your feelings have changed and you are trying to come to terms with that but he doubts you would ever approach him about it yourself. So, he brings it up first.

And when he does bring it up - it is on the most mundane night. The two of you did not travel to a special place, you didn't even leave the house. He invited you in his study to simply see just how much his company is no longer a complete comfort. And when he lifts his head up from those pesky papers, he sees you staring out the window.

It hurts him but he still says: "You're allowed to leave." He can see that you're confused. "You're allowed to leave me, my love." He can't stop himself from calling you that. Here he is, lessening up the burden for you, telling you to break up with him - but it is with everlasting love that he makes this easy for you.

Mammon simply refuses to believe anything has changed. For someone so intrinsically impulsive and naturally intuitive - he lies to himself and would gladly do it forever. 'Yes, my human's hand doesn't grip mine as tightly as it did before.' and 'Yes, they're sometimes lost in their own world but..they're human! Humans are known for this!'. You have to be the one to do it. Mammon simply wants to live in this love forever. Some have looked at him with pity for it but he has no problems. As long as they don't say anything. As long as he can believe his own love is enough - he pays it absolutely no mind.

Except, he has to listen to you. And even you were not sure how to bring it up. However, while he was resting his head in your lap during a 'throw-whatever-movie-on' night; the couple on the screen broke up and it was like something got lost between the two of you. It started as a simple debate over if the couple should have broken up at all. Mammon and you were on opposite sides of course and it caused an argument. After it escalated he simply yelled 'break up with me already. stop being dishonest!'. It simply flew out. He never wanted it to be said by anyone but he couldn't like anymore.

And break up you did. It was odd, you had to comfort him about it, you had to live with him and hear him crying, you had to see his puffy eyes. And Mammon kept protecting you still. Just...give him time. Give him forever if you can. Forgive him when he introduces you as his significant other, forgive him when a loving nickname slips out and forgive him for when he simply looks like he is begging for your love while you call him 'your best friend.'

Leviathan somehow ends up taking it far easier than you would have imagined. He always live in this state of thinking that the worst is coming to him and, it is not a betrayal, that he imagined you breaking up with him several times. He has had nightmares about it and he has had intrusive thoughts. But, the difference from this time vs any other - is reality itself. Before, he would open up to you about his nightmare and you would hold him dearly. You would chase it all away. You would reassure him that his doubts were just the worst parts of him coming to surface.

But, this time, you have to comfort him about the reality of his situation. His doubts were grounded this time and they came true. His love and his tries were simply not enough.

Now, you have to give him space. Too much space. How does he rationalise wanting to see you all the time and never wanting to see you love someone else?

It truly doesn't matter what you or his brothers or even he himself does - he will end up hurting for a long time. But, it is fine...his love has no place to go, but he thinks that letting you go proves just how strong it is.

Maybe one day - you will come back to him.

Satan thinks it is a curse to be able to tell when someone doesn't want him around. And the worst part of it all is the fact that you are not even aware what you feel. He can tell. He could always tell. You don't know why time with him spent seems longer and longer nor do you know why you are not fulfilled as you were before.

Satan has not changed nor has his love - but your feelings are starting to become lost instead of grow. You still look at him with loving eyes but he constantly asks himself 'how much longer? how much longer until they realize it? until they leave me?'. That is no way to live and sustain a relationship and he brings it up first during an expensive dinner. You are trying to properly cut the meal and he looks at you from across the table.

"Do you remember what I told you once during our morning tea?" "I...I don't think I do. Which morning tea exactly?" "When we first started dating." He can tell you do not remember so he continues. "I told you that if your feelings ever start to change you should immediately tell me."

It is...pitying how you look at him in such a confused way. You haven't figured it out yet. But after this you will.

"You will regret breaking up with me." His old habits are hard to break. It seems like an angry sentence but it is not a threat or anything of the sort. He says it as an observation - as a hope to himself.

"My feelings have not changed. Even if your own probably have. But, please remember everything I have said."

The two of you continue to eat dinner. But something tells him once this is over - nothing will be the same as before.

Asmodeus will never not equate your love lessening to him not being good enough. And that is precisely why he takes it the worst out of any person you could know. Asmodeus has so much love to give, and his identity and pride center on loving and being loved in return. He tries everything he can. More expensive treatments, better skin care, fancier dates and bigger romantic gestures. He even reads books on how human emotions change and every single time he turns onto a new page - his heart breaks. He can notice even the smallest signs that lead up to it.

But, when the signs are small, he figures that he can fight them with just grander gestures. That your doubt is temporary and soon all of your love will find its way back to him.

But Asmo never likes fake flattery or fake love extended in his direction. If your words are not true - don't say them at all. If your love is lessening - at least respect him so much that you are honest about it.

"I never expected this..." "Hmm, Asmo? You never expected what?"

The two of you are in his bed, cuddled up close.

"I have had people not fall for me at all - but I never expected you would fall for me so hard and then slowly lose your love." His arms tighten around you as he says it. What is there left now?

Beelzebub has always been so kind to you. That the realization of your lack of love comes as a natural thing after a long time. Why? In his kind nature - he never demanded anything of you. Beel accepted what you would give and never made you feel uncomfortable with what you were not willing to do. In simple terms, his whole being adjusts to you. And when he sees you shy away, when he sees you get lost, when he sees even the slightest hint of hesitation - he stops. And with it, the two of you carry on with the title of a couple but the parameters change. You two are definitely in a relationship it doesn't matter that your kisses lessen until they almost disappear. All that matters is that you find comfort in one another's presence.

Others have tried to bring it up but your love is simply confusing to everyone around you. It is like the both of you are oblivious to the changes until one day, when your own heart skips a beat when you see a stranger on the street.

And then you realize it. Somewhere, you've lost the title of a couple. You've simply transformed into great friends without realizing it. So, by the time you bring it up - both you and Beel are fine with it. This breakup doesn't cause either of you pain and...hurting him would be the last thing you would want.

Except, you will never know that Beel has realized it a bit before you, that he had to get over you before he was ready to let you go.

Belphegor never sees his love lessening and he cannot imagine it ever would. So what if he notices the signs? It doesn't mean that he will act on them. He has written papers on humans before and he is wiling to call this one of your 'temporary changes' that would later on make you realize just how much you actually love him.

But he gets impatient so quickly. He is as he always was in this relationship but you are slowly creating a distance between the two of you. He can tell how you are going to talk to him about your feelings soon and he absolutely hates it. He can see it coming when you look at the ceiling with empty and insecure eyes; and instead of letting you speak, he holds you so tightly that he buries his face into the pillow.

"Don't do it. Don't you dare tell me."

And you immediately know what he is referring to.

"I don't wish to hear it." And you want to tell him that he has to. That its been a long time coming.

"Let me sleep instead; stay in my arms for a little while longer."

Your break up with him has no chance of ever being pretty. He will simply tell you 'no' and 'don't you dare make me listen to that.' and 'let me love you a bit longer.' But, after you finally refuse to listen to him and tell him how it is - over time, he will find it in himself to forgive you. But he needs so long to actually get used to you not being there for him to love anymore.

lucifer wants you to know one thing - for perhaps his whole life - he has felt that something was missing. holiness and rebellion are two sides he tampered with and in them both, and even with every step he has taken to live - something was missing. you. with all of his choices, you melt into everything. he notices it all. you are the fire and the red branch and he must be the ash. you are in everything and everything carries him to you. yet, he has lost so many things already and he knows that humans are fickle creatures. when he is alone, he can’t help but think of the darker what ifs. still, he wants you to be free. lucifer lets you decide. but just know, that if you go against the darker voices in his mind - if you choose to remember him and love him (the same way he has already decided to do with you) - he will never truly be ash. the two of you would be destiny that burns forever.

simeon knows that time matters in all things and its his tendency to always wonder about it while he loves. since time exists in all things that means that his love does too. in the air, the ocean, the land. in the places so many people cannot reach. he knows that lovers suffer but his suffering is rather sweet - its not tangible; it is simply worry for you. simeon will stand in front of anyone who asks - and if someone deems his holy love as anything but true - he won’t remain quiet. when your fingertips brush he is overjoyed. his love finds immense joy in all things that come back to you. this love has no fear. this love knows just what to say. it doesn’t matter what sages have to say; it only matters when you speak.

for someone that is best characterzied as ‘impulsive’ you would expect the same to be the description of their love. but, thirteen fell for you impulsively and so quickly that actually wording it, actually sounding it out and allowing herself to be so vulnerable was hard. rejection would destroy her after she finally found you. she doesn’t ask you to come, she just asks you not to leave. she thinks that being, uncharacteristically, quiet about the love but expressing it as if it was actually spoken - would make your own feelings reach that cliff of impulse and it would all come crashing down. you would come right into her arms. in this love, you were the first one who had to start it by saying something - but once you did - that was everything she had been waiting for.

He belongs to one of those that refuses to admit the true reason his gaze lingers on you. one of those who feels his fingertips tremble when you stand near while he chooses words opposite of that. what good would it be to admit that he is so utterly lost in you? he has expectations placed on him - how could he get lost like a simple snowflake in the sea with a human? you are so different from him and he swears that this distance will clarify the situation but, when distant from you - he grows even more lost. his love confession came as a surprise to himself the most. it was like rushing wind. denial means nothing when love plunges so deep.

‘i am not yours, not lost in you, not lost, although I long to be lost as a candle lit at noon, lost as a snowflake in the sea.’

a/n: if you disagree with my choice of poems *shows you the list of my classes* i major in this and you’re wrong. this was so so fun but so hard?? because not only did i not want basic ass love poems; they had to fit the characters perfectly and they had to incorporate both the good and the bad since the game makes us see so much of their flaws. AND TO ADD TO THAT - THEY HAD TO BE GENDER NEUTRAL. tf u think i am?? to allow a poem mentioning she or him to slip inside and ruin your reading experience?

even in this state, love persists.

synopsis: nightbringer has turned Solomon into what he is but he used you, Solomon's lover, to achieve his goals. this curse that he has placed upon you is his largest sin.

pairing: Solomon x gn!reader word count: 1k

Sometimes you think it is utter spite and perseverance that lies at the center of your being. Yes, there is an overwhelming amount of love but sometimes it makes you feel pitiful. It reminds you of the way kids stand around on the beach and play in the sand; those of them that do not have enough talent to make a castle pretty, end up making it larger than the rest to cover up the obvious flaws it has.  

Is the love Solomon gives you similar to that?  No. It is not.   And you shouldn’t even think that way but...were it not for the curse, you think, maybe the huge displays of love and their occurrence would lessen down.  

The curse it to blame for everything really. He is to blame for everything. 

But, on the other side of the coin, there is the fact that you never would have known what you were capable of if this didn’t happen. How many years has it been now? A hundred perhaps? Looking and marking the passage of time is something humans do and while you use that spite of yours to prove your humanity; you also admit that Solomon and you are far removed from what the regular human is.  

There is this consistent battle of keeping your humanity. Keeping it in front of one another is easy – all of those flaws and virtues are cradled together and there is no curse that could break the bond the two of you have..but... out there?  In the human world? You are far too special to ever create friendships and connections with others.   In the realm above? You are deemed far too interesting to be something truly real.   And in the realm below? Far too dangerous and cunning.  

Everything that Solomon is you are by extension. What makes it worse is that nobody else really sees you. The seven brothers he talks about have no idea who you are, but you are aware of their actions and secrets.  

Solomon has always been good at keeping those and...did they cause your current state? Yes, absolutely but..you can’t find it in yourself to ever hate him.  

There is a specific sense of guilt that Solomon carries for what has happened to you because of his own foolishness inside that youth he wanted to share with you. He has learned some lessons and he continues to.  

Solomon was far too arrogant when he spoke with Nightbringer all those years ago. He initially refused his offer but Nightbringer’s chess bord was not something Solomon could ever knock down. In his own foolishness, Solomon is destined to carry this guilt for the fate you have been forces to live all this time. 

Nightbringer knew that getting to Solomon by normal means would perhaps be impossible but he also knew that using you in his eons long scheme would prove more efficient.   Nightbringer told you he regrets nothing, he only wished he had a chance to get to know you more or perhaps drink delicious tea.  

He said that to you after manifesting next to your bed in the middle of the night before engulfing you in a glow unlike any other. Your fate was sealed then. With his curse of turning you into an enchanted brooch – Nightbringer got Solomon on his side.  

You hated him. You didn’t only hate him for what he had turned you into, but you hated how far his cruelty sometimes stretched. He was a savior to some other people but all you remember is how cold his hand was while holding your new form while he was writing a letter to your lover.  

‘Solomon,  

join my side and I will tell you where your lover is hidden. Would you still love them like this I wonder?   You are free to try and find them on your own, but I advise against it.   Even if you do, my curse can only be reversed once I get what I wish. We both know how serious I am about these matters. 

Make a choice that benefits us both. Or, at the very least, make one that benefits you.’ 

Perhaps the reason why you stopped keeping time is because Solomon did not immediately come to you. All you remember is darkness before someone finally opened the lid.   You were hoping it would be Solomon but instead it was the culprit.  

It broke your heart to see Solomon with a defeated look and a shattered heart in front of you. In the end, he agreed to Nightbringer’s blackmail.   You were the cursed prize that ensured Solomon’s collaboration.  

Solomon held you in his hands and cried that night. He cried for his own foolishness and for the fact that your love would prove to have no limits in the worst way possible. Your words of comfort seemed pointless back then but they’ve been meeting up more and more recently. You know because the only time Solomon does not carry you with him is when he has to talk to Nightbringer.  

Nightbringer said your presence once reminded him of his own pitiful ways and Solomon loved nothing more than to remind him by which means he obtained a partner in crime.   Both of these men somehow refused to budge out of their own incompetencies so Nightbringer told Solomon not to bring you around anymore.  

Maybe the end of your curse is close by now? You have every right to harbor that hope now as you did at the very start!   And you love Solomon in the exact same way as before. How could you not when he teleports back into the room and kneels down next to the table to look at you.  

“I am home. Did you miss me?”  “Hmm? Sometimes it is nice not to hear your voice or to be smushed into your inside pocket you know. Peaceful even.”  

You obviously don’t mean that.  

“I’ve missed you too, my love.”  “Solomon, it has been approximately seven minutes.”  “An eternity I know.”  

Before you had the chance to retort, Solomon continues.  

“I think your curse will be lifted soon.” 

Your breath hitches. Suddenly everything is still. Solomon lifts you up in the palm of his hand and places a gentle kiss on you. 

“We have been over this, your kiss to the centre of this diamond brooch – I mean me, I guess – is not what will lift this curse.”  “And yet, I will continue to try. Nightbringer said that time is just upon us and I vow to kiss you then for real.”

Part 1 of Rook daydream blurbs. (Gn!reader as always).

Rook wishes for many things in his life but as a child he wished for even more. He supposes that his growth and the art of it all is apparent by that same fact. And it is a good thing. It should be a good thing. As a child, he often felt selfishness was something he excelled at even if his wishes were only repeated inside of his own mind. There are plenty things that make up a person. But he is not a selfish individual; its just that..he isn't quite sure when his wishes started extending in your direction.

Like right now, for example, he wishes you were actually on the bench or in the hallway or NRC. And it is such a simple wish - but he knows what the lack of your presence means right now. You have been kind enough to trust him - to gradually unravel before him the deep inner world of your cosmos. It is trust that glues this all together. And he cannot betray it.

So, when Ace asks him if he knows where you are - Rook lies. Not for his selfishness but to make Ace bother someone else with his simple homework instead. But, would keeping the information also make him more self-serving? You are having a bad day and are probably hanging around the Garden somewhere. And, is him tidying up the lab, changing his clothes and then making his way with that place in mind - is it..selfish? Is it selfish to know you need comfort and that he knows he can provide it for you?

He knows because he already has. Somehow, since the first day you came, he couldn't ignore your subtle signs of tiredness and worry. Rook notices those about everyone. Keen eyes are a gift and he has worked hard to perfect his senses. But, just because he notices them does not mean he will approach every single person and offer his own presence.

With you, it happened naturally. It reminds him of the way spring seems to catch up with the sky.

Oh, and there you are, in the botanical gardens - just like he knew you would be. You are hunched over, your eyes resemble of some artistic effort from a veteran's stroke of trying to paint a truly tired person. At least, the gardens are a comfort place to you. Despite the eyebags, he can see how you smile looking around.

"Could you not sleep again? Is that why you are here?" Politeness would order a greeting first but his curiosity of your wellbeing is number one.

"Maybe Ace is right. You know too much for your own good, Rook."

He isn't hurt by your words because they carry a teasing lilt, and you scoot over to make place for him next to you.

Sitting in grass, he can't help but admire how it all feels. Your hand is in his lap before he even speaks again and he smiles.

He moves his fingers on your wrist, circles it softly with his fingertips. It relaxes you, he knows. And he finds it fun to trail your veins. To softly massage your palm and touch your own fingertips. It helps you.

"Epel stayed the night over because of another argument with Vil and he wanted to sleep in my room with Grim. Well, rather, they both fell asleep in my bed while I was reading."

Your eyes are closing more often and a yawn escapes your mouth.

"Mhmm, I see. And did you have any nightmares when you did fall asleep?"

He can see the water on your eyelashes from the yawn and you are already scooting so that you can lay your head down in his lap.

Rook doesn't find it odd. He doesn't question the nature of your relationship just because of it. This happens. It simply does. No need to deny you the satisfaction of rest.

When you lie down, you close your eyes and tell him about your nightmares. They were short but your voice is slowly trailing off, then you say a random sentence unconnected and he knows you will quickly fall asleep. Rook continues to listen and before long, you are completely asleep. And he cooes at you quietly, keeping himself still. His hunts have prepared him for this.

He just hopes whoever is walking this way has enough sense not to wake you up now. Again, he isn't selfish.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" Leona's tone is full of mockery as he scratches the side of his head. "A hunter and a little herbivore. How interesting."

Rook simply smiles at him. Leona not getting a provoked reaction makes him roll his eyes.

"What did I walk into?"

"They have trouble falling asleep in front of other people?"

"And what about you?"

"I am simply not other people, Roi des Lions."

Leona has to roll his eyes again. He doesn't feel the need to question anymore and he leaves. Rook, however, thinks of the answer that left his mouth as if on instinct. Perhaps, he is a bit selfish.

Only a bit. Only for art. And only for you.
