After nine months of blood, sweat, tears (mostly tears) and not having time for social media, I’m finally releasing my graduation film, Have A Nice Trip, online! (...or rather, quietly sliding it under the table to you guys - since some film festivals won’t accept films that have already been released online, I’m gonna meet them halfway by making the video unlisted so I can still share it here.)
It’ll be of interest to you guys since it’s set in the same universe as Mudskipper (you’ll recognise Olkalo in the background and the species of three of the supporting characters), but in the bigger picture of my creative output, I feel the purpose of this film is to sum up what animation as a medium means to me. It’s characters distorting like jelly and doing wild takes and all sorts of stuff that isn’t physically possible in real life, yes - but it’s also a tool for inspiring empathy; somehow a goofy, salamander-rabbit-creature in a terrible situation feels more real than a live-action human in an equally terrible situation, at least if your brain is wired like mine. I wanted to celebrate and demonstrate that fact with this film and hope it comes across both to potential employers and festival goers and to you, my lovely readers and followers.
Enjoy!
