hi so i have a friend who may be little? idk really it doesnt seem like she's aware she's acting younger it kinda just switches out of no where and almost whenever she sees me. she gets rlly shy and nonverbal and i just want to know what i can do to make her more comfortable? i know she had a rough childhood and a bad home life currently so those could be factors. currently i just treat her as if she's little but we've never rlly acknowledged it

Note: I’m operating off of the assumption that you yourself are not a little/regressor, based off of the language in the ask.

Well, you’re doing a good job already by being accepting and not trying to force her to come out. Keep that up, ok?

I know you mentioned a rough childhood/bad home life, so try not to remind her of that when you think she’s regressed. Many people are more sensitive or emotional when regressed, and if she’s using regression as a coping mechanism, she probably doesn’t want to hear about the thing she’s trying to escape.

One of the best things you can do to make her feel comfortable is to let her know that you veiw age regression in a positive light. The biggest reason we don’t come out is the fear of encountering someone who won’t support us. Someone who thinks age regression is weird or gross, automatically k!nk, or just an excuse to be overly sensitive and immature.

You could ask her, casually, (when you don’t think she’s regressed) if she’s ever heard of age regression. Maybe talk about how you found out about it, what it is, or how you’ve heard that some people use it as a coping mechanism. If she is knowingly regressing, this will let her know that it’s safe to come out to you. If she isn’t regressing, or is doing so unknowingly, this will either allow her to put a name to what she’s feeling, or point her towards a possible coping skill. If you don’t feel comfortable being so bold, just continue to allow her to be herself around you.

No matter what you do, remember that littles are still people. We still have boundaries when regressed; we can still think for ourselves and make our own decisions. Don’t try to parent her or push her to do anything. Don’t talk down to her or treat her too much like a child. Yes, sometimes we have carers who can take on similar roles, but every little is different, and those who do want to be treated that way need to discuss and agree to it first. Listen to what she says and how she says it, pay attention to her body language, ask for clarification when you’re unsure, trust what she’s telling you, and stop doing whatever your doing if she’s uncomfortable.
