Idk how to respond to replies or if I should have reblogged the thread again but I still feel like indigenous religious practices (if that is what they meant) shouldn’t be equated with “witchcraft” either. It’s definitely not my first thought when I hear “witchcraft”... but if they did mean ‘paganism’* and the existing European pagan syncretism isn’t enough I guess they could always find a Mexican Catholic congregation that might let them join. Other than that, yeah, it is probably a shit idea to try for some pseudo-indigenesque Christianity.
*scare quotes because dividing religion in to “Abrahamic” and “literally everyone else“ seems silly but especially so when the “everyone else” word is all but subsumed by (neo)Pagans who practice a modern religion with no real ties to any historic pagan religion.
