Did you have a good relationship with your father?

Taylor: Frankly, it was not all that great. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my father, and I know he loved me, too. We just didn’t always get along. Honestly, I learned to appreciate him more in retrospect after I matured and after I myself became a father. When I was a kid, we weren’t all that close; he spent a lot of time building a career when I was little, didn’t have so much time for family. We had a lot of disagreements in my youth, even about trivial things. He also didn’t get along with my grandfather, his father-in-law, which contributed to our arguments because I loved my grandfather dearly (I was even closer to him than to my father). My father also wanted me to work in politics like he did, an idea I really hated back then. He made me enroll in law school, but I dropped out after a year and decided to become a soldier instead (like my grandfather), which he was unhappy with. I didn’t see him much after I enlisted in the army. Sadly he passed away just a few years later.
