The more I work on the story of NOTAMAN the more I find I need to add new set locations. This project originated as a marionette play and so it had been important to keep the sets limited to the absolute essential locations. As I decided to adapt it to film that didn’t initially change because I anticipated making it myself and each of these sets would represent months of work for one person. That part still hasn’t changed—I will be mostly making this alone as far as I know. However, as I decided to focus on just one scene and then seek funding, it has allowed the rest of the story to expand where it needs to. I know I can always scale it back if funding doesn’t come through.
With that I’ve added a new scene where ANDi (the robot protagonist) finds a hall of displayed heads in a robotics manufacturing facility and chooses his new face. This is partly referencing a favorite film of mine, Return to Oz, where Mombi selects her head and wishes to take Dorothy’s.
