Grammar: ～ (の) ために

When the pattern ～ (の) ために is connected to a noun, it means to do something for the sake of the noun. When it is connected to a verb, it means to do something in order to do (verb).

Conjugation (N + のために)：

ex. 赤ちゃんのために (あかちゃん) = for the baby

ex. 友達のために (ともだち) = for my friend

Usage:

ex. 赤ちゃんのために、一生懸命働きます。(あかちゃんのために、いっしょうけんめいはたらきます）- For my baby's sake, I work with my utmost effort.

ex. テニスのために、毎日練習します。(テニスのために、まいにちれんしゅうします) - I practice everyday for tennis.

ex. バレンタインデーのために、チョコレートを作りました。(つくりました）- I made chocolate for Valentine's Day.

ex. 行くために（いく）= in order to go

ex. 食べるために（たべる) = in order to eat

ex. 勉強するために (べんきょう) = in order to study

Usage:

ex. 宿題をするために、図書館に行きました。(しゅくだいをするために、としょかんにいきました) - In order to do my homework, I went to the library.

ex. 京都に行くために、新幹線に乗りました。（きょうとにいくために、しんかんせんにのりました) - I took the bullet train to go to Kyoto. 

ex. さるを見るために、動物園に行きました。(さるをみるために、どうぶつえんにいきました）- I went to the zoo to see monkeys.
