US — Oakland County, Michigan. A 22-year-old double-murder suspect previously declared “armed and dangerous” by police has been found dead in a wooded area. Ruby Taverner, a male previously named Martin, was on the lam at the time of his death.
Described in police alerts to the public as “a thin, white woman with purple hair” standing “at 5 feet 2 inches tall and weight 115 pounds,” Mr Taverner was the sole suspect in the double homicide of his transgender-identifying girlfriend and of his own twin brother, which took place on Sunday.
Bishop Taverner, an Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Michigan and the twin brother of suspect Ruby Taverner, was found dead of a single shot in the living room. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the murder was likely premeditated: “You don’t typically find someone shot in the head one time unless they just kind of coolly and calmly walked up and did it.”
Oakland County deputies responding to a 3:20 AM report of gunshots at 5901 Dixie Highway had discovered two bodies.
Ray Muscat, who was named Amber Muscat prior to taking on a male, transgender identity, was found dead in the bedroom. Police identified the deceased 26-year-old female as the live-in lover of the suspect. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Ruby Taverner fled the Clarkston city apartment complex on foot after the murders, leaving behind his cellphone and vehicle.
At the time, Oakland Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a public statement: “Our Fugitive Apprehension Team, other Detectives and assets are actively looking for this homicide suspect who we believe is armed and dangerous. Please contact 911 if you see her or know of her whereabouts.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Ruby Taverner had a .38-caliber handgun and two 9 mm firearms registered under his name, including one purchased within the past week.
On Monday, Ruby Taverner was discovered dead of a single shotgun wound in what police are calling a suicide. A Glock 43X handgun, purchased within the past week, was found near the body.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said: “This tragic situation has now been brought to a close, and our investigators will now pivot to see if we can answer the question on everyone’s mind – why?”
The family of the deceased Ray Muscat has opened a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of the funeral, which is expected to be held this Friday in Waterford.
