if there was one thing beth learned time and time again, it was that nothing ever really lasted forever. not the good, not the bad. eventually, with enough wandering, they’d find a place that would raise the question what if? what if we stayed here just a of couple days? take a break. what if we stayed here a couple of weeks? a few months? forever? and then sometimes they would, settling into the safety of it all until eventually that would end too, starting the cycle all over again.
from a chair, beth nervously bounced her knee, watching as ellie packed the remainder of her belongings off the old hotel floor. through the paper thin walls they could hear distant laughter from those who so kindly took them in, a few doors down acting like they were still on that great georgia vacation. they were supposed to head out today, back to aimlessly wandering until they found something better. something more secluded. when she finally spoke up, her voice was soft and hesitant, unsure how ellie would take the words she wanted to share.
❝ we don’t have t’ go just yet. if ya ain’t ready, I mean. ❞
