Feminism vs. Equality: A Math Problem
Many people make the argument that if feminism is really about equality, then why can’t we just call it that? But here’s my take on the issue.
Let’s say you’re given the digits 1-9 and told to use addition to make them all 10. That would mean you need to add 1 to 9, 2 to 8, and so on. You are essentially being asked to make them all EQUAL to 10, but based on the fact that every single digit you started with is LESS than 10, using the term addition is also appropriate, and a bit more descriptive.
The same concept applies to feminism and equality. We are standing for women’s equality to men, but based on our society that demeans and puts women below men in almost every aspect, it is simpler and more descriptive to use the term feminism.
