He should not have laughed at her words, but he did, and the pain at his side flared at the sudden movement. Ray winced, and his hand clenched at his side. “Don’t think staying still is going to be a problem,” he said softly. “Can’t really move right now, Gideon.” He pressed his eyes shut, and exhaled slowly through his mouth, focusing on his breaths and trying to ignore the pain. Gideon’s fingers running through his hair was calming, and he could feel himself relax.
