For all of you who wonder whether aerial is hard/it hurts/is dangerous/terrifying... the answer is yes. It’s all of those things. You get bruised. You get burns, you get sore, your hands hurt, you get tired. Sometimes you fall. If you’re lucky, you can fall well and safely, but not always. Sometimes you fall twice in a night. Some of us fall twice in a routine. The videos above are two different angles of the same run on the trapeze. I fell twice. In the top video, I catch myself in a knee hang out of the fall, and it’s perfectly safe. Would’ve even been safe over a crowd, without a mat. The second fall, however, is a bit scarier. I was relying solely on the mat below me to catch my fall once I felt myself dropping. Thankfully, I know how to fall safely, and my stunt/highfall instincts took over. This combination could’ve been so much worse. Moral of the story, kids: Aerial arts are dangerous, and can even be deadly. Make sure you are implementing all safety measures possible before practicing anything you’re uncertain you are capable of doing. Thanks, @theaerialmermaid for pushing me hard in my second ever trapeze class, and helping me to remember that I’m not always a superhero. #safetyfirst #aerialist #dangersmymiddlename #acrofail #notsoacrobats #fail #fall
