FBF. One year ago @whowhatwhit hosted the most extraordinary lunch at Tiffany and Co. @tiffanyandco as well as @delphinereedkrakoff helped @elledecor to set the most beautiful table and fill it with the best group of designers for an incredible afternoon of friendship and community building. Miss those days. Then @alexsviewpoint and I had a moment to look at all the new pieces for spring summer entertaining. #littlerickyrecommends #richardmishaandesign #notsolongago #missmyfriends (at Tiffany & Co.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBDhDEgBSgy/?igshid=n28a4lipnhr6
I don’t ever want to forget last week’s Pop Up at @saks. It was validation of a 22 year journey in fashion and the realization that God continues to clear a path for me. I am grateful for the struggles and the triumphs. Thank you to all who have shared a kind word, prayed for me, and/or bought a bag. Shout outs to @loveauntbonnie & @corynnec for giving me this opportunity. 🙏🏾🙌🏾❤️ 📸 by @glammzmore • • • • • • #flashback #motivationalmonday #remember #memories #notsolongago #blessed #grateful #saks #popup #bags #accessories #style #design #presentation #luxury #handcrafted #madeinnyc #WhoAreUCarrying #SKWiLBUR #ItsAllInTheBag (at Saks Fifth Avenue) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2wT2ylFJw8/?igshid=she3x41jv6jw

@thedayafter2016 - Fanny Jackson Coppin was born enslaved in Washington DC, Oct. 15, 1837. She gained her freedom when her aunt purchased her at age 12. Through her teens years she worked as a servant for the author George Henry Calvert and in 1860 she enrolled at Oberlin College in Ohio. Oberlin College was the first college in the US to accepted both Black and female students. While attending Oberlin Jackson enrolled and excelled in the men’s course of studies. She was elected to the Young Ladies Literary Society and was the first Black student to be appointed in the College’s preparatory department. As the Civil War came to an end she established a night school in Oberlin in order to educate freed slaves. Upon graduation in 1865, Jackson became a high school teacher at the Institute for Colored Youth (ICY) in Philadelphia. She was promoted to principal of the Ladies Department and taught Greek, Latin, and Mathematics. In 1869 she became principal of the entire institute, making her the first Black woman to receive the title of school principal. She was the first Black woman to head an institution of higher learning and she remained there until her retirement in 1906. Jackson founded homes for working and poor women, and she was an influential columnist who defended the rights of women and Blacks in local Philadelphia newspapers. She added missionary work to her long list of accomplishments when she married Rev. Levi Jenkins Coppin, a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in 1881. In 1902 the couple went to South Africa and founded the Bethel Institute, a missionary school which emphasized self-help programs. Coppin returned to Philadelphia because of declining health. She died in Jan. 1913. In 1926, a Baltimore, MD teacher training school was named the Fanny Jackson Coppin Normal School in her memory. It is now Coppin State University. #fannyjacksoncoppin #coppinstate #oberlincollege #amechurch #notsolongago #nsla - #HowYouLivin #RoyaltyPromotions #philadelphia #phillyhistory
#Repost from @thedayafter2016 with @regram.app ... John A. Amos, Jr. was born Dec. 27, 1939 in Newark, NJ. He attended Colorado State University, where he graduated with a degree in sociology. Amos was an athletic youth and played various sports, including college football and boxing. He earned a Golden Gloves title and later signed to play professional football with the Denver Broncos followed by a stint with the Kansas City Chiefs before he was released from the team due to injuries. His career on stage and screen began with a writing gig for The Leslie Uggams Show in 1969. One of his first major roles came in 1970 when he was cast as Gordy Howard, the weatherman on the The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In 1973 he appeared on Sanford and Son before being cast on Norman Lear’s Maude. But in the 1976 sitcom Good Times, he drew audiences in with his memorable performance as the hardworking dad, James Evans, Sr. opposite mom, Florida (Esther Rolle). Lear had intended the series to cover more serious social issues but audiences fell for Jimmie Walker and he became the focus of the show. After Amos voiced dissatisfaction with the direction the show and its depiction of the Black family, he was fired; his character killed off in the emotional 2 part episode entitled, “The Big Move.” “I could have begged. They made it obvious to me that I could come back and be a good boy; but I'd rather be in Roots than Good Times.” Amos’ next role came in the biggest television event of the 1970s when he played older Kunta Kinte/Toby in 1977’s epic miniseries, Roots. The series, which received rave reviews, also shattered viewership records, many of which still stand. Amos continues to be a recognizable presence on television shows and movies. Having a lifelong passion for sailing, he founded the Halley’s Comet Foundation to introduces inner-city children to sailing and possible maritime careers. He is a veteran of the New Jersey National Guard and is an Honorary Master Chief of the U.S. Coast Guard. #johnamos #goodtimes #estherrolle #kuntakinte #roots #halleyscometfoundation #fathersday #normanlear #notsolongago #nsla
