Lilacs in a Window
Eugene trailed up and down the familiar aisles of Lixmart, scouring the shelves for one particular box. He had called the manager, who said that what he wanted would be in stock today, and yet no matter how carefully he looked at the shelves, he couldn’t find it. He ran his hand through his faded hair with a frustrated sigh and continued to look, until out of the corner of his eye, he spotted an employee walking by.
“Oh! Um! Excuse me, sir!” He chased after the employee, finally catching up with him a little ways down the aisle. “Um, do you happen to know if you’ve got any of the Rocket Red permanent hair dye in stock? Has it just not been put out on the shelves yet? Or did it get moved...?” He was struck by a pang of guilt over making such a fuss over some simple hair color, but he was already standing in front of the employee, so he fiddled with his hands a bit as he awaited some answers.
