what were your main inspirations in writing mariimo?
The earliest seed for MARiiMO was planted back in the nineties, when I read about a real-life robot named Cog, who was created at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Cog was one of the earliest humanoid learning robots.
There wasn’t a lot Cog-related information available to me at the time, save for a few blurbs and photographs in children’s books about robotics. But what I did learn sparked my imagination like nothing else.
Even as a child, long before I was serious about storytelling, I thought about the possibilities of a story centered around a Cog-like robot. Not a sci-fi robot, but an actual, plausible, learning machine.
By the time that seed finally developed into MARiiMO, developmental robotics had come so far that it exceeded even my (admittedly exaggerated) childhood imaginings of what Cog was.
It’s fortunate that MARiiMO had such a long journey from initial inspiration to finished product. The march of time opened up possibilities I could have never imagined.

I think it was a good vid, she seems to have evolved on some things. I’m not NB tho so maybe there’s something I’m missing

YO!!! 420!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH! OHHHHH!!!
how old were you when you came up with evil chancellor traytor etc.? some of the concepts in that post seemed a little advanced for children.. or maybe you were just less oblivious about the political world than i was as a kid, that's entirely possible. in any case, i enjoyed the story!
Well, I mean, when were kids we didn’t really use terms like ‘civil infrastructure’; that’s mostly just me rephrasing things in adult concepts. The Chancellor Traytor stuff happened over the course of a couple years, I think I was around eleven-ish then. My sister is a couple years younger than me. We did have a pretty good grasp on political terms and concepts, though, our mom worked on campaigns for a while when we were younger, and our grandma did, too.
Plus, my sister was (and is) a massive history nerd. Enough so that one of the bathroom sinks was constantly referred to as ‘the aquaduct’ in our games.
