NOVATION IMPULSE 49
I’m sure that pianists and piano tinkerers have a difficult time finding the gear that works for them best. They might want to use a real acoustic piano if given the opportunity, but an acoustic piano is an investment that is hard to carry around with you. Simply shipping a piano from one house to another is grounds for needing a retune on every key. Take that option away and what are they left with? The answer is a digital keyboard, and this doesn’t sit too well with many. Trying to find that genuine sound will either leave you in the dark or with a giant hole in your pocket. There needs to some sort of medium ground that pianists can look to. A synthesizer might be an option thanks to the familiar keyboard layout, but the synth is far beyond what a piano player needs. Do they really want to mess around with oscillators and modulators? I think they just want the damn thing to sound like a piano. The reasonable choice here is a MIDI keyboard that doesn’t feel like a toy. Novation is one of the few that produce upper end MIDI keyboards that aren’t aimed at just digital producers. The Impulse 49 is far from an impulse buy. http://www.attackmagazine.com/reviews/gear-software/novation-impulse-49/
