I'M TWO PAGES AWAY FROM MY LAST BIG EDIT ON THE NOVEL I'VE BEEN WRITING FOR 8 YEARS
What is the plot of your novel? What are the characters like? What's the genre? Where can I get the book when it's published?
thank you for the interest!! the plot is intertwined between the main character being in the closet in a small town, dealing with an abusive situation at home, and then being on a high-stakes road trip with his longtime crush. i'd say the genre is somewhere between romance and contemporary fiction.
the characters are so, so important to me in general - between working with them for so long and how personal writing can be, they've become a big part of my life even though they're fictional and i'm really the only one bar a few of my friends who've read what i've written.
the protagonist is skittish, down on himself, and in the closet. this is an important factor because it plays into the way he connects with the other characters - his friend at school, his father, his crush, the other kids at school. this is heavily based on my own experience as someone who spent a majority of their teen-hood in the closet.
the deuteragonist is also the love interest, but not in a way that he's only there to be the love interest. most of the plot is shared between the protagonist and the deuteragonist as far as motives and pushing the plot go. he's arguably more fleshed out than the protagonist, but that is because i have made the choice to go with a vague unreliable narrator throughout this novel and the deuteragonist is the long-time crush of the protagonist. the deuteragonist is also lgbt, although he's closeted but not in the same way that the protagonist is. he's closeted socially and not to his family because his mother is a lesbian and he has a stepmother. also he remains socially closeted to "protect" his little sister who is facing racially motivated bullying at the high school. (because they live in a terribly small town, he's afraid that coming out socially and publicly would not only paint a target on his back, but his sister's back and she's already struggling as it is.)
there are several other major players and the main antagonist remains faceless for most of the novel. in fact, for most of the rising action, the main antagonist is interpersonal for the protagonist until then it transforms into an outside force pushing against the main characters.
also! there are plenty of interesting secondary characters who have interesting stories as well, and i plan on either writing novellas or full-length novels so that they don't get lost in this story.
as for where you can get this novel when i get it published, i don't really know. i have a few more edits to go through before i can
god damnit if the cw can get the powerpuff girls B's green lit i can get my 211 page slow-burn, angst, road-trip romance green lit too
