normal people review

this book was underwhelming.
i enjoyed the drastic change from the unrealistic book relationships in literally every single romance book. it was realism. normal people was a bowl of cold ice water that you submerge your face under to return to reality after a lovely daydream. the back and forth made me frustrated but weirdly pleased and i became fascinated at how much i was pleased to see a normal relationship. this relationship had problems and issues that i found myself relating to. i feel like we see so many perfect relationships in books now that i was shocked when i read this book and realized that my fantastical dreams in a man were unrealistic.
and maybe that’s why i didn’t like this book as much. is it wrong to want to fantasize about a perfect relationship with a beautiful man? a huge reason that we read books is to escape our reality. normal people didn't help me escape the real world. it transported me into the undeniable future where i may not find the perfect relationship.
but that’s what makes this book so interesting. its real. i am a firm believer that every good or well written book has a deeper meaning and this was a well written book. even if a book is a fun read, i find reading pleasurable when 0\o can find a deeper understanding in life or human nature while reading a book. normal people did just that.
i understand the concept and the theme but it was not my favorite book. this was a book that i was able to finish but it wasn't a page turning book. i didn't hate it; it just wasn't the best book ever. i gave it 2.5 and not 2 or a 1 because it had a great message and i respect the book. although, i wouldn’t read it again.
final verdict: i am glad i read this book and i do not regret it. it was fine. it was poetic. it was underwhelming. borrow this book at a library and see if you like it. probably don’t buy it. read it if you find yourself wanting a realistic relationship.
