So it's looking like NSW nurses and midwives are going on strike on the 15th of February. Mandated nurse:patient ratios have been something we've been crying out for for years, but in pandemic conditions the hospital system is in crisis. Wards are full to the point that patients are being turned away because there's no beds, nurse managers are working on the floor because they can't get enough regular staff on the floor, and skill mixes are not adequate. Burnout rates are at an all time high for registered and enrolled nurses.
Anyway, watch this space, and let's see if we can force Scott Morrison and Dominic Perotet to take action.
