i love the jokes about Matt chaining Jay to his radiator and stuff but I wanna say, a core part of Matt is that he doesn't actually want to totally take away Jay's autonomy. like he could if he wanted, I believe in his ability to. but what Matt wants is to be chosen by Jay over and over in the same way he chooses Jay over and over. he'll do stuff to manipulate this decision obviously lol. and argue. The Buffet was entirely an exercise in getting Jay to realize how much he needs Matt. and he doesn't stop Jay from getting a job. he even relents and apologizes for his freakout. it's not about the job interview, it's about Jay confessing that Matt doesn't fulfill all his needs and that feels like being shot with a gun. he didn't stop Jay from going to a party, he just turned up and made Jay choose him again, even if Jay wasn't aware of it. Matt presented a choice between him and Kayla and wanted Jay to choose correctly, he didn't block the exits. Matt just needs to be chosen and so Jay needs the freedom to choose and this is the Matt torture nexus because even as Jay will always come around, he will keep Matt doubting for the rest of their lives. it's great, it's really great stuff. that's why there's no radiators in Jay's future and why I'm less into the characterization of Matt as being that brand of controlling

something thats fun to ponder for me is that jay has potential to be possessive too but there's never any worry or risk of matt having anyone else in his life so its not even a consideration for jay really. I think a lot about webseries jay losing his shit because he can't join matt and eric with magic cards. like matt has one hobby that jay doesn't share and he loses his mind over it. like he can't stand not being able to do that one thing with him.

like jay can be jealous, I think, but matts limerant obsession with him is like security like he has nothing to worry about for sure. hypothetically though i think if there was ever any risk of matt spending his time any other way it would absolutely destroy him because he never even thought that was possible, in comparison to matt, who is constantly worried about being left behind. and that all makes me kick my feet. someone give him 7 or 8 beers

something that I haven't seen discussed, probably because it seems so obvious and a given, is that Matt really did not care that Jay killed someone and I love that. I wonder if he believed he really did it or not, what he thought the circumstances could be. there wasn't really time in the situation to digest any of that, and he heard the sirens and he jumped to self sacrifice anyway. I wonder if he even understood that he wouldn't get to live with Jay anymore. it's a different Matt. but it's worth it because ultimately, what is the point of living anyway if Jay isn't in his life. if its not their life.

Its kind of a big deal to me that Matt being willing to die for Jay isn't a hypothetical, it literally happened and that Matt wasn't resurrected or anything, he's just gone. the battle of the bands suicidebait moment was so much and obviously played as a joke but also like Matt is consistently operating from the POV of life without Jay being like worse than death. that's textual. that's like, the crux of everything. Matt is controlling of Jay, but Jay has him under his thumb in a way I'm not even sure Jay fully understands. he would do literally anything to keep Jay by his side, to keep the status quo of their lives consistent. the controlling behaviour on his part really is just wrestling back how out of control he feels constantly because of how intense his feelings are.

I like when Matt hurts Jay because the veil is so thin. We see a beautiful display of raw vulnerability from him, in the form of lashing out over his insecurities, yes, but even just his childish naivete like in The Boost. He really couldn't have predicted Jay would OD because his mind never went there. Confronting that left him so fragile. Like the way every nasty word uttered on the roof of the Rivoli was a glimpse of his soft, immaculate soul.

I like when Jay hurts Matt because umnmmmmmnhehhehehhehhehhehehehehehbebhehehhpshshhshhehhetehejejhehhehh . hahahhehhhetiihhahhho
