The scene in ntn where Nona does such a spot on impression of Palamedes kissing Camilla's hand that Camilla has to dissociate about it in the tub has me wondering about the first gen lyctors' relationship with Alecto. Do you think that they were afraid of her because she wasn't human enough or because she was too human?Do you think that she worried her lip like Cristabel? Do you think she walked with Alfred's walk and laughed Pyrrha's laugh? Do you think they saw in her flawless imitation a mockery of their dearest friends and of their greatest sins? Do you think they said to John "it is a monstrosity, it is unbearable, send it away from us, Lord. We cannot look at it." Do you think he looked into the golden eyes of his own greatest sin and said "You are right, we should put it to bed."

Thinking about Cam and Pal and the distinction between them. The little things that are different, past even the things that Nona mentions in the book.

Like how Pal would probably seem a bit taller as he's always standing straight. How cam is more tense and more eyebrows while Pal lets his face relax.

How Pal might brush the fringe out of his face when he's studying because he's not used it it, or because he simply forgets it's there and rubs his fingers over his face, messing her hair up in a way she never does because she's used to it and he's not.

When they try and fool ianthe that nona is harrow for a second ianthe gets suspicious and seems to worry its gideon? But she clearly knows gideon is undead and well in another room. So whats that about is she worried gideons soul is split in two or about something else?

It does seem like she worried it's someone or something not Harrow.

She might think it's Gideon. She knows Kiriona is chilling in her room, but Ianthe's body is alive and well in orbit while she walks around in Babs. Harrow and Gideon are one flesh, so if no one else was home in Harrow's body it's possible Gideon might be able to toggle between them.

Or maybe she thinks Camilla found some way to funnel Palamedes into Harrow's empty body after Gideon got yoinked out. Not impossible, he does fight Ianthe for Babs later. I'd wonder if she thinks it's Number Seven, but if she thought that I think she would have reacted differently to Nona's scream.

Most likely she's fishing. She doesn't finish the sentence because she suspects it's not Harrow, but doesn't actually know who else it could be. She's hoping if she acts like she already knows, Nona will just tell her.

What John did to Gideon/kiriona is selfish in a lot of ways but one thing I haven't seen discussed is that it makes her favourite skill,her passion,the crux of her self esteem utterly pointless

It literally doesn't matter how good you are with a blade if you cant be hurt,you might as well just use your fists,and even if you ARE good people will just assume that was given as well

Also further pushed the "butch bodies are to be used,pushed,not cared about,taken for granted" like,they don't even have to worry about injury or death so it also further makes excuses for people to just not be concerned

Just a brief remark on reading Nona the Ninth (I’m not up to full discussions yet lol):

SPOILER UNDER THE CUT

Holy FUCK, Muir has a talent for making my soul leave my body in grief. The scene where Cam and Pal merged fucked me up as hard as Gideon’s death in GtN, and I think I blanked out on what happened after it. I know I read it, and I remember some bits, but ...it just broke me. I know it was kind of inevitable, and I know it was even a relief to Cam, but the whole thing just ...messed me up hard. I am Nona’s Grief.

Also, not digging the name Paul even though there’s a whole biblical thing there
