So what do I do with this sandbox I've been gifted? I think I'll take the sand and bury myself in it.
Nuclear Moms – Who Cares (Self-Released)
Nuclear Moms are a bass and drum duo from Columbus, Ohio doing what pretty much every bass and drum duo has set out to do...be as loud as possible despite incorporating only two instruments. The band does pretty well in achieving this, sounding rather full and meaty throughout their debut record Who Cares, quickly discarding any concerns of their ability to deliver on the promise of power. Rather than go for the higher pitched tones of the Lightning Bolt set, Nuclear Moms opt for the path of bands like godheadSilo, where deep full bass reigns supreme and personally that's the version of this setup that I typically prefer. The duo takes this and applies a higher punk tempo/aesthetic to the sound, burning through songs left and right...most typically clocking in just under two minutes...which seems like about the perfect length for what they appear to be doing and certainly creates a level of noise that approaches disorienting. But overall, Nuclear Moms have a record here that is loaded with big heavy riffs that hits the spot. Nuclear Moms - Dad's Garage (stream) BUY IT!
