Nuclear Testing
There have been 928 nuclear tests performed at the Nevada Test Site. Among these were five that happened on this date, January 18: in 1956 as part of Project 56; 1962 as part of Operation Nougat; 1966 as part of Operation Flintlock; 1967 as part of Operation Latchkey; and in 1968 as part of Operation Crosstie. Protests at the sight occurred from 1986 through 1994. Testing at the site ceased in 1992.
The broadside, Protesting at the Nuclear Test Site, was hand-printed by Mary Laird at her Qulequefois Press in Berkeley, California in 1993, and is signed by the poet, Denise Levertov. We are also showing a signed presentation copy of No More War! by Linus Pauling first published in 1958, this enlarged Apollo Edition came out in 1962.
