Tutorials, assignments and stress!
I always write my blog posts on Sunday evenings just before I start a new week; my blogs are sort of reflections/motivations for the week ahead.
In my last post I spoke about how I’ve already gotten two assignments, I had to hand up my first assignment last Friday. It was a personal response to the William Wordsworth poem, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, in secondary school English was one of my strongest subjects, so I knew I’d be okay with a simple 300 word essay but I was also worried about how the structure would be different in a third level environment. I was right.
Before handing up our assignments we met in our tutorial group which is made up of 20 people, the tutor explained to us how personal responses in college aren’t about ‘I liked this poem because’ or ‘I enjoyed this poem due to..’, now that we are in college we are forced to use objective and definite language, ‘The poem is enhanced by the imagery created..etc.’
Once the assignment was completed the stress didn’t stop there. I submitted it online, but then I had the added worry of getting the hard copy handed in on time. This meant travelling over to the South campus (which in theory isn’t a far walk from accommodation but I was feeling lazy), put money on my MyCard, figure out how to print off my assignment and then finally place it in the little box situated outside the English departments office. Typically the printer didn’t work for me, but I used my friend Eimear’s laptop so it all worked out in the end!
My next assignment is due on Thursday, it is based on bibliographies and citation, hopefully all goes well and I’ll report back on that when I can!
Overall I am enjoying college life, I find the lectures and tutorials really interesting, especially my double of Creative Writing on a Tuesday. No complaints so far!
Until next time,
