One feature that has always been emphasized on Traktor and not so much on Serato is the internal mixer.  Traktor has been built as a piece of software that can run completely on its own, without any external help from controllers or hardware.  Although this is obviously not a preferred setup, it can be accomplished if need be.  Serato on the other hand has slim pickings when it comes to anything resembling a mixer – their program has been tuned to run with a hardware mixer or a branded Rane mixer instead.  Assuming you don’t have the greatest mixer out there, the internal mixer might be a better solution. A budget mixer like the Numark M101 will serve a purpose, and that purpose is to separate and combine audio together.  However, it lacks some more modern controls like a full band EQ for example.  It will make mixing a harder job with only control over the bass and treble.  This is not to say that it cannot be used with a DVS (and it will) – but the audio quality will suffer in this respect.  It may be a better solution to use the internal mixer coupled with an aftermarket MIDI controller. http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/03/controller-clinic-22-can-i-use-a-numark-m101usb-mixer-with-my-kontrol-x1/

Confused About My First Step Into Digital

Any new DJ trying to get into the field of electronic DJing is faced with a few dilemmas.  They want to have gear that is acceptable which will serve its purpose, but they also don’t want to have gear that will make them look like an absolute beginner (assuming their skills don’t do it for them).  On the other hand they can be easily tricked into thinking they need much more than they really need, and will end up with a scratch mixer that will never be scratched on.  Overshooting your needs in this game can get costly and it is just as bad as undercutting them as well.  Since there are so many controller out there it is safe to say that none of them are really “garbage”, they are simply others with more options and better control. Even a basic Numark Mixtrack controller will set you in the right direction if your only intention is tomix music.  Back in the days a decent dual CD deck player was very costly and near the cost of owning CDJs.  Plastic certainly makes things possible in our world, and it makes them cheap and easy to produce at high volume as well. http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/04/controller-clinic-24-confused-about-my-first-step-into-digital/
