Charli XCX- Number 1 Angel (Mixtape Review)
Okay, let’s get this over with. Charli XCX is an electropop/ pop singer who’s had some albums that people like, I think. I can’t speak for their quality because I’ve never listened to them, but I can speak for the quality of her new mixtape, Number 1 Angel. Is it good? No. Is it bad? No. Is it painfully mediocre? Absolutely. The album starts with Dreamer, which actually has some really nice dream pop instrumentals and some decent vocals. I was going into this expecting the worst but his honestly surprised me and raised my hopes just a bit. Meanwhile, the next song, 3AM (Pull Up) lowers my hopes again by being annoying, and the song after that, Blame It On You, is a special combination of annoying, generic, and terrible. At this point, my hopes are possibly even lower than when I started this. The album actually starts to pick up here, with Ride With Me, which is okay. After that are Emotional and ILY2, which are actually great songs. I would definitely listen to them again and they’re definitely worth listening to. White Roses is next and it is a very mediocre, if not outright boring song, but this really doesn’t detract from the album. Unfortunately, this is where the album starts to get worse. Babygirl would be a good song if not for the Uffie feature. Her voice is quite possibly the worst thing I’ve heard in a long time and the one good thing I can say about her feature on this song is that it was short. Next is Drugs, which is so generic I don’t even feel like talking about it. Finally, the album ends with with Lipgloss, which features CupcakKe. The instrumentals are good and this song would be fine if it didn’t make me want to hang myself. Not only is CupcakKe a terrible rapper, but this song sounds just like all of her other garbage. In conclusion, I don’t recommend this unless you’re the kind of person that loves generic pop. I do recommend listening to Emotional and ILY2 though because they’re actually good.
Score: 5/10
Best Tracks: Emotional, ILY2
Worst Tracks: 3AM (Pull Up), Blame It On You, Drugs, Lipgloss
