Confabulation with Michelle Yoon - Nunovit Issue 15 Cover Artist
Why do you make art?
I notice myself drawing something when I'm feeling anxiety or insecurity. Whether the art contains whimsy or melancholia, I feel better after venting through art.
Who or what are your inspirations?
Stylistic inspirations come from many different talented artists I come across in daily life. But story inspirations always come from personal experiences in social interactions. I'm fascinated with personalities and psychology, and that always seems to inspire me.
What importance, nourishment aside, does food play in your life?
Good food brings good times! I love splurging on food with friends and laughing about the silly noises we make when we do it. It just makes good memories.
What's your personal favorite recipe?
Ox tail soup
Ingredients
3 Oxtail Bones Water! 5 Kale Stems, Cut Half an Onion, Cut 4 Garlic Cloves, Chopped 1 Tsp Ginger Powder A pinch of Cayenne Pepper Powder Dried Basil Salt .5 tbsp Soy Sauce Black Pepper Sesame Oil
Instructions Heat pot with sesame oil. Just slightly stir fry the entire ox tail bones with ginger powder and pour water until the bones are completely submerged. Bring to boil for at least 30mins till the meat is tender. Add more water since water level decreases after boiling for a while. Add everything else. Boil for 10 mins, add a desirable amount of salt to taste and its done!
What’s the most aesthetically pleasing food you’ve come across?
Ube ice cream (purple yam) sprinkled with salted pistachios. I love the lime green of the pistachios against pastel-purple colored ice cream. It sounds plastic and inedible, but once you have a taste it all makes sense. It tastes amazing!

My submission to this month's Nunovit. The theme was "connection." Somehow that turned into a fart joke...
Also eleven, like elevenses, like hobbits. Enjoy with a nice buttered bun: http://nunovit.com/issue/eleven.html
