Why don't they use anesthesia (If they have it)?

Do they enjoy the torture? Is Tenna a robot, and that's why it can't be injected? They don't want to spend money on it??

Thank you!! ^^ The main reason/short answer is yeah, Tenna is very much A TV in this. (and whenever I draw/make stuff about him in general.) I really wanted to lean into how that would most realistically work, bc I really like coming up with analogs for electronic characters in medical situations. (grew up watching the brave little toaster and spent a lot of time in a computer drive repair place bored out of my mind as a wee bab.) I think challenging myself to figure out different procedures for repairs and stuff is a fun brain exercise and makes for some interesting scenes/storytelling. (and drawing ideas :3 ) (huge tangent incoming :P ) Plus, in the nature of the genre, it'd kinda feel boring if all the conflict/fun parts got skipped out on, imo. I think when I read/watch stories like this, I always wanna see what happens in "the during" and always get disappointed when they skip it. Akin to skipping over an action scene in a movie, you're leaving the interesting bits up to interpretation and robbing yourself of the feeling of suspense; of your heart pounding in your chest because you're following along with what the character you're watching is feeling. That scene in a horror movie where you're like, "ouhh what are they gonna do to blorbo??" would be missed out on. I could just hit the off button on him, but wheres the fun in that? The entire plot of the au would be 5 seconds long lmao. I Did play around with an idea with speculative anatomy, and the idea that he'd maybe have some magic based organic fantasy anatomy in some spots. Like maybe his tongue is a muscle (so he can talk/eat or something idk) and I thought about the idea that if they wanted to give him injections, they'd probably just stab him in the tongue. But then I was like, maybe that'd be too goofy or convoluted to some people, idk lol.

Kinda went off on an impromptu essay there, but my brain is full of sentences to share, and hopefully you get the idea, haha =v=) TL;DR: yeah it's bc he's a robot/TV and various reasons regarding my preferences for storytelling, heehee. ^^

What do you think about the treatment (repair) of this idiot after you know, a roaring knight cut off his arms, his antenna broke in half and the screen shattered??? 💥 💥 💥

Idk about the screen, bc that isn’t repairable irl, (you absolutely could find a way make it possible through darkner magic and speculative anatomy) but he’d definitely need to have the antenna soldered and splinted, maybe replacing some of the exterior if it’s torn. Any wires that got cut would have to be soldered together and re-insulated as well.

As for the casing on his arms and shoulders…

Have you heard of plastic welding? :) It’s basically heat-stapling something shut in the same way sutures/medical staples look and work. The type of plastic that CRTTVs are typically made of is a plastic that can be welded, so it’s perfect for him in this context.

While it seems functionally the same as soldering, with plastic welding, there’s these little squiggly bracket [ shaped metal ‘staples/pins’ that heat and melt the plastic around it. Then it’s embedded into the plastic and stays there afterwards to anchor each side together, rather than just only melting the material and relying on it sticking to itself. The pins on each end of the staples (meant to hold onto and heat them up) are then broken or cut off. If the plastic is then shaped with a flat heat tool to smooth it over, the pin can be hidden and lies just under the surface of the plastic. So, you know, permanent sutures!! Those are just there forever now. :)

In regards to him getting repairs, specifically for the casing, I imagine it would be a tedious and painful procedure, so they’d have to do it in several sessions. He’d probably only be able to handle them welding half or a fourth of an arm at once, so as much as he’d hate multiple appointments and would want to minimize them as much as possible, he wouldn’t be able to sit there and endure that level of pain for very long. They’d probably compromise down to four sessions, and it’d be hell the entire time. At least in this situation Mike is most likely there with him for comfort/support.

I love your tenna art so much!! with how terrified he is of maintenance, has he ever tried hiding somewhere they can't easily get him out? like getting real small and hiding in some hard-to-reach corner?

Oh he absolutely would, bro is scurrying around and running under the cabinets like a hamster for sure. That’s why I imagine the Mikes would probably have to get him into a room and lock the door before they tell him he has an appointment, to which he’d inevitably respond by going Stuart Little Mode™️ and then they’d have to manage getting him into a cat carrier.

If they’re too late with it and he’s hiding already, searching for him takes awhile. But when they find him, they’d probably have try pulling him out from under there with magnets. Which he hates, but not as much as he hates going to the repair facility. Then, if their threats don’t get him to crawl out of there himself, which it usually doesn’t, he has to deal with the after effects of the magnets as well as the Dread and Terror he’s feeling when he realizes it’s joever and he’s screwed.

Quick idea I had: after all that how would he react to a checkup or even full repairs that just don't hurt, like at all?

Would he panic cause he thinks something's broken, would he feel betrayed that every previous time did hurt? What if anticipation winds him up so much he doesn't notice that it's fine until halfway in and the remaining time tries to calm down and just sits there confused

So, I'd love to see what your mind has to offer on that too :)

Hi, Welcome to this little blorbo torment corner! we like to have fun here :3 Hmm well I think unless they’re doing a really simple look-over, there’s very little they’d be able to do that wouldn’t hurt him at least a little bit. (if we're going by the logic of my personal diabolical headcanons for how all that works.. sorry, Tenna.. :P ) Unscrewing panels with a screwdriver and checking things with the multimeter and rudimentary things like that already have a needle-esque feeling to them for him, I imagine. Those are all pretty baseline simple things for him to get inspected, similar to taking his blood pressure, temperature, vitals, and stuff like that.

HOWEVER☝ , if he ended up going in for an exam that ended up being overall painless, ... I think at the beginning, his fear and fight or flight instinct would still kick in as usual; he'd be terrified the entire time, but near the end/afterward, the adrenaline would take a lot longer to die down. Because subconsciously, his body is still expecting/anticipating some sort of pain or event. So in this situation, I think it would leave him exhausted and anxious for the rest of the day. His fight/flight response wouldn’t run its course and have a clear endpoint where his mind can decide the danger is definitively gone now. This'd probably cause him to spend the rest of the day very glooby and curled up in his bed. Banished to cozy-land. All this is speculative on my end, btw! I'm Not a psychologist and didn't study this stuff, so I could be totally wrong with all this, it's just a very rare instance where I'm intentionally drawing from personal experience as an anxiety-haver lol :P
