WOW. We got to hand out with these gentle giants for over an hour thanks to @tamarinddivers on #Nusalebongan. 🙏🏽 Watching these incredible creatures slowly flying through the water was one of the most incredible marine experiences of my life to date, let’s say that the salty water in my mask wasn’t from the sea water for once. Preserving places like this, that these guys call home is absolutely crucial to our marine ecosystem and our worldly ecosystem as a whole. It saddens me to say that not only did we see many mantas, we also saw a multitude of plastic debris throughout the water coloumn not to mention what floats in the surface - an almost seeming endless stream of floating packets, bottles and bags, and as filter feeders these poor guys can’t help but swallow up to 40 PEICES OF MICROPLASTICS PER HOUR!! This toxic soup of plastic and the chemicals that plastic absorbs is slowly but surely killing our marine life and poisioning our biggest life source on earth, the oceans. Please, wether you live near or far from the ocean, refuse and reduce your use of plastics, tell the producers that plastic is not what you want and not what you need, and move towards sustainable and renewable resources. We can all make a difference to the world in which we live.
