Healthy moderation is a balancing act
Hallelujah! Selene Yeager is talking good sense in her Fit Chick blog for Bicycling Magazine. Was there ever such a cesspool of fads, misinformation and dysfunctional obsession as food and fitness?
When something is pronounced beneficial, people jump on the More! More! More! bandwagon. If something is shown to have adverse effects when over-consumed people scream Delete! Delete! Delete! Critical thought and common sense are rare commodities it seems.
What worries me is the sheer number of women who constantly catalogue their obsession with food and their physical appearance. Their psyche is completely choked up with how they look, how others perceive them, what they've eaten, what they are going to eat next, whether they have lost or gained a few grams. All power to people who are taking control of their health, changing it for the better and aiming to inspire others. But obsession is never healthy.
Moderation really is a pretty good rule-of-thumb.
