PS5'in APU 'su NVIDIA GTX'den daha iyi performans verecek

Şu sıralar konsol piyasası hiç olmadığı kadar hareketi. Nintendo’nun yeni nesil Switch modelini çıkaracağına dair iddiaların ardı arkası kesilmiyor. Diğer yandan ise Microsoft, yeni Xbox konsol ürününü geliştirmek için çalışmalarına devam ediyor. Sony de boş durmayıp PlayStation 5’e dair AR-GE faaliyetlerini aralıksız sürdürüyor.

Firmalar her ne kadar sessiz sedasız iş yürütmeye özen gösteriyor olsalar da ara ara yeni konsol modellerine ilişkin sızıntı kaynaklı haberler gündeme gelmiyor değil. Mesela şuan için PS5’e dair teknik detaylar kesinlik kazanmamış durumda, ancak elde ettiğimiz bir son dakika bilgisi konsolun modern bir oyun bilgisayarı kadar güçlü olacağına işaret ediyor. Buna göre PS5’te kullanılacak olan APU, popüler ekran kartı üreticisi NVIDIA’nın GTX 1080 modelinden çok daha iyi performans verecek.

Daha önce de belirttiğimiz üzere tüm bu bilgiler henüz “iddia” aşamasında teyide muhtaç. Ancak görünen o ki Firestrike benchmark programında PlayStation 5 test edilmiş ve sonuçlar internette paylaşılmış. Bu bilgiler doğru kabul edersek PS5’te Gonzalo APU’nun kullanılacağını söyleyebilmemiz mümkün. Birçok oyun geliştiricisi ise şimdiden PS5’in üst düzey işlemci gücüne dayanarak grafik kalitesi seviyesini yükseltmek için düğmeye basmış bulunuyorlar. Yakın gelecekte çok daha gerçekçi ve çözünürlüğü daha yüksek oyunlar hayatımıza girebilir.

PS4’ten 4 kat daha güçlü olacak

Benchmark sonucundaki rakamlara baktığımızda Sony’nin yeni konsolunun baz PlayStation 4 modeline kıyasla en az 4 kat daha güçlü olacağı çıkarımında bulunabiliriz. Keza NVIDIA’nın piyasadaki en güçlü ekran kartlarından GTX 1080’i geride bırakacak kadar güçlü bir birleşik ekran kartı ve işlemcinin PS5’te kullanılacağı da görülebiliyor. Eğer bu bilgiler isabetliyse, Sony’nin oyun konsolunun çok ciddi bir mesafe kat ettiği pekala söylenebilir. Ancak dediğimiz gibi, tüm bu bilgiler asparagas da çıkabilir. O yüzden bir nebze temkinlik yaklaşmakta fayda var.

Öte yandan belirtmemiz gereken bir diğer husus da Gonzalo APU’nun hala daha geliştirme sürecinde olduğu gerçeği. Yani PS5 konsolu seri üretime geçene kadar ekran kartı ve işlemcinin teknik değerleri olumlu veya olumsuz yönde değişiklik gösterebilir.

Want a GTX 1060 or 1070 be prepared to be gouged for it

The technology industry is an awfully cut throat industry. Whenever there is increase in need the law of supply and demand kicks in and the cost of products skyrocket. Within the last week the supply of Nvidia’s GTX 1060s and 1070s have dried up (save for the specialty liquid cooled 1070s). Now that unit availability is becoming scarce the costs have jumped between $20 to $50 dollars through technology retailers like NewEgg, and up to $150 on eBay.

So why are 5th tier (GTX 1060) and 4rd tier (GTX 1070) cards  (1st tier cards are the current Titan X Pascal since Nvidia has stopped selling the previously released Titan X - Pascal edition) so hard to get ahold of. Well, it’s all due to cryptocurrency mining.

Cryptocurrency, according to Wikipedia, “is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions and to control the creation of additional units of the currency.” “Cryptocurrencies are a subset of alternative currencies, or specifically of digital currencies.” Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009. Since then several other crypto currency services have appeared.

Crypto-coin mining is the process of becoming one of the nodes in the decentralized network. For the automated ledger process of the transactions you get a small fee for your systems work. For the most part the processes are powered by a specialized cryptocurrency processor or an AMD graphics processor (which apparently was better suited than Nvidia graphic processors for the calculations involved).

So since cryptocurrency mining is in a bit of a boom, there is a massive rush for mid-tier graphics cards and the GTX 1060 and 1070 are apparently in that range (even though the 1070 seems to be a bit in the high end range, and is not exactly great for crypto currency mining). So that means that there is a massive run on 1060 and 1070 cards from retailers. (That also means that the completion of my piece-built graphics design rig will be completed a bit later than planned since my system was to get a pair of GTX 1070s).

So if you want or need a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070 or any of the new AMD Radeon RX 500 series cards (seriously … if you are going with  AMD you should look into the R9 380 and R9 390 series … they are a bit more powerful) you may need to wait a couple months for the prices to stabilize, Asus to release their new specialized cryptocurrency graphics card, and for the warehouses and store shelves to be restocked before you can purchase yours.

Update - As of posting this article this evening there has been a run on lower cost GTX 1080s. I am not sure whether it's the crypto-coin miners or people who were looking for a GTX 1070.
