American Marigold: Is there anything you will not/cannot eat?
i’m actually pretty allergic to pears! they make my throat swell up (i once had to go to the A&E in edinburgh because a smoothie i drank had pear juice in it that wasn’t listed on the ingredient description) and i have to carry antihistamines on me all the time just in case.
i also flat-out refuse to eat olives in any form
Butterfly-Weed: What is one thing that always makes you stop and admire, no matter what you were doing prior?
i love murals and other street art, especially in unexpected or out-of-the way places, and try and stop for a minute to admire what someone has made and wanted to share with the world
Flowering Cabbage: Name one thing you keep, despite it being pointless or purposeless other than sentimental value or you simply cannot throw it away, and state the reason why you hang onto it.
i save and collect basically every kind of ticket stub i’ve accumulated over the past eight years or so (movies, concerts, museums, sports games, etc) and have three full shoeboxes just chilling on top of a bookcase. i think i’d like to collage with them someday, but have to figure out the right format
i also have my great-uncle’s world war 2 reserve parachute bag, which has the most awkward shape and is pretty useless when it comes to actually carrying anything, but i’m going to hold onto that thing until i die
Ornamental Purslane: Do you wear any jewelry? Which ones are your favorites? Do you favor certain metals/gems/styles?
i’m wearing at least five rings at any given time, and usually a necklace. i used to wear a ton of bracelets, but my job mostly consists of me typing at my computer, and the constant jangling kept driving me crazy.
i have a necklace with a bronzed hawk talon that i love a lot, but my favorite piece is probably a really simple silver ring my mom had engraved for my twenty-first birthday! it was the depths of my time in hockey fandom - danny briere (small french canadian love of my life) was playing for the habs and being treated abominably by michel therrien, and i actually sent him a fan letter! in it i mentioned that i was going through a rough patch and asked if he’d sign a hockey card of his i had. he actually wrote back!!! and sent me a few things beside the card he’d signed, and wrote me a really lovely note, and ended it with “stay strong :) your friend, danny” (i have it framed on my bedside table). my mom had the artisan jewelry shop in northampton do a scaled-down version of the words “stay strong” in his handwriting on the ring, and sent it to me while i was living in scotland via her friend’s pastor, who was in town with her husband, and who got to watch me burst into tears in a cafe, so there’s that.
