Our photo shoot with Morgan Moody was shot by photographer Charles Hilger in Fayetteville, Arkansas! Check out his website at charleshilgercreative.com!
What is the biggest problem you face when shopping for blue jeans and blue jean shorts?
Morgan- My thighs...umm well not my thighs, they’re not the problem, it’s the shape of the jeans that is always wrong. Like, for example, they will fit in the thighs but, the waist is huge or they are way too tight in the thighs but, fit in the waist. Especially with shorts, that’s something I’ve come to notice. Because jeans you can get stretchy, but with shorts they just squeeze your thighs, it’s unflattering one and two it’s uncomfortable because you’re being squeezed out of your pants. That’s the biggest problem with my thigh/butt ratio to waist/butt ratio is pretty drastic and so many girls are built like that’s such a normal shape.
Fox Trot- You’re a pretty average height!
M- I have pretty short legs, so I don’t have to worry about buying tall anything, my height is in my torso so length is never the problem. The biggest problem is the jeans fitting everywhere; waist, thighs, and butt.
F- I completely agree, it’s like they took Kendall Jenner and said okay we’ll make jeans to fit her body type. Which there are tons of girls who are that shape and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just harder for people who aren’t.
M- I’m sure girls that are built like that have their own frustrations when it comes to shopping for jeans. So I hate shopping for jeans but, so does everyone else. I don’t have the time or money to get alterations, I should get my jeans taken in. But, I don’t want to have to do that, it’s annoying. I want to go to the store, buy them, and wear them that day.
F- No matter what store you go to, everyone is so different and it’ so hard to find jeans that fit you in all the right places.
M- My legs are bigger but I wouldn’t qualify for plus size, so I’m more in the middle, so when I’m shopping I either get really small plus size jeans or really big normal jeans, it’s weird because there’s no…
F- There’s no true spectrum of jean sizes.
M- If you shop at a plus size store then you’re going to lose style, which is so frustrating, you have to sacrifice cuteness because you’re bigger and that’s not fair.
F- I’m always wondering where I am on the spectrum, because you see plus size models like Ashley Graham and she’s a beautiful curvy woman. But, I don’t look like that so am I technically not curvy? Then I look at skinnier models like Cara Delevingne and I don’t look like that so I’m somewhere lost in the middle?
M- Right, Ashley Graham is so beautiful and I feel like she and I are build similar but, she’s perfect so it’s different. However, I still think she would have a hard time shopping for jeans and that make me feel good!
F- She’s also so raw about being comfortable in her own skin that it’s reassuring for me.
M- Right, this is how I explain my body type; not skinny enough to promote tea on Instagram, but not big enough to be like a bad ass curvy model. Hahaha I’m somewhere in the middle and my clothes never fit right.
F- Oh that’s a perfect description and I feel like that’s sooo normal.
M- I don’t feel like this bizarre being, a lot of girls look like me so then I know a lot of girls get so frustrated when they walk into a clothing store just like I do.
F- Every brand is so different, there is no universal size that clothing companies stick to...
M- Definitely not, with jeans I just grab them all and hope for the best. I used to have a problem with looking at the size numbers I would be so down on myself if a size bigger would fit. But, I started to come around and say “okay, this fits me, you look good and this is okay”. Learning that my body isn’t the problem, clothing sizes are just weird and they don’t make sense to anyone.
