Running, running hopelessly away from something she couldn't escape. Barking, or was that screeching? Her name being shouted in a tone that seemed foreign, but as the sound grew louder, she knew it had been Rue. She panicked, frantically running towards where the sound had originated, her eyes wide. Just before she could notch her arrow, someone shook her shoulders. "Katniss, Katniss, it's your watch." She was told. Her eyes opened somewhat slowly, and she rubbed the sleep from them.
Katniss made her way over to the opening of the small tunnel they were in, sitting closer to Peeta than she had in quite some time. His hijacking had forced them apart, and it pained her. If she had ever needed his support, his strong yet gentle embrace, she needed it now. Things were difficult on her, and she wished to could confide in him and explain her plan. But the Peeta she loved before, the one who loved her so deeply, had been ripped from her grasp. Now he was a shell of who he used to be, confused about every little detail of his past life.
Just looking at him made her heart swell with sadness. Her eyes focused on him for a moment, the light flickering across his features. His eyes were closed it seemed, and she couldn't help but feel something rise within her. She was unsure of what it was, but she didn't like the feeling. Suddenly, his eyes flicked open, and she moved her gaze to the door opening. Hopefully he hadn't seen her staring at him, it might trigger him again, and she couldn't take that right now.

Rye was always the better baker. He was the one who could always time the bread right, add the right amount of vanilla into cake batter, and mix the cookie dough for the right amount of time. He had the patience for it while Nova would rather peak into the oven in anticipation of the baked goods. Of course, both Mellark children had patience but for different things. Nova was the hunter and Rye was the baker. That’s the way it had always been.
Yet, there were days where Nova would head to the bakery instead of going home. She would help out here and there when she could, hoping that she wouldn’t burn anything in the process of helping her father. Nova had a few reasons why she went to the bakery, however -- rather than just to try to out bake her brother. One was to steal the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven until she ate her fill. Another was to knead dough until all of her frustration from school dissipated. Though all of the reasons were trumped by one -- all she wanted to do was spend time with her father.
Nova practically ran to the bakery after the final bell rang. She was like an eager kindergartner all over again, except grown up and preparing to go out into the real world. Once at the front door of the establishment, the brunette swung the door open, dropped her belonging on the ground, and hopped up on one of the counters. She waved a hand at her father, a smirk tugging on the corners of her lips.
“Do you have any cookies leftover?” Nova asked, swinging her legs back and forth as she focused on her father. “Or did Rye hide them all from me? I have news by the way. Three guesses!”

"Hello, Peeta," Annie greeted, as she carefully entered the room and closed the door behind herself. "How are you doing?"
