Community Solar NY Launches in New York State

Recently, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of Community Solar NY. Community Solar NY is a new effort to make solar more affordable through community-driven initiatives. NYSERDA is supporting these initiatives by providing technical assistance, marketing materials, and funding. Applications from local governments, schools, and community organizations to launch "Solarize" campaigns in spring 2015 are now being accepted. Solarize campaigns are locally-organized community outreach efforts aimed at getting a critical mass of area homes and businesses to install solar. Since it doesn't cause any carbon emissions during use, solar PV improves air quality, lowers costs and increases neighborhood climate resilience.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $28.6 million in awards under the NY-Sun initiative. “With these awards, we aren’t just investing in clean, renewable energy: we are investing in New York’s future,” said Governor Cuomo.
