ok so in eighth grade i had to do this thing for history class where I and another person debated a subject we had learned about with two other people in front of a bunch of people (parents, teachers, students, etc). everyone spent weeks preparing their arguments and rebuttals, trying to anticipate their opponents’ points and counter them. on the day of the debates, i got up on the stage with my partner and prepared to debate with the two other students. they were both missing. instead of just not debating, we had to debate with our (notoriously passionate and ruthless) history teacher. needless to say, it didn’t go in my favor and there was a point where i had nothing to say and had to stand there, staring at all the people, saying absolutely nothing. it was terrible tbh
