Come pluck a treasure from the sky!
I will be creating a site specific installation at NYC Poetry fest to promote creative reuse of unwanted textiles.
I will be suspending hundreds of small individual painted pieces of fabric in the air, to simulate the visual of a wishing tree. While researching wishing trees I found that many cultures all over the world tie a ribbon to a tree to make a wish or prayer. Now I'm not an anthropologist or anything, but if you're offering something to the gods it must be precious right? And textiles used to be precious! Clothing manufacture took so much effort, that even now a lot of the phrases and words we use come from the textile industry. Come to Governors Island and grab a piece of treasure from the sky!!
