First Listen Friday: New New York 5x14 (part 2)
This is his last episode so let me just gush for a moment about how much I love Elliot and what a great friendship Kelliot had. Look at them bouncing ideas off each other, appreciating the other, and giving supportive advice. Oh and they sound great too. (Also, shut out to comedy Klaine because that bedbugs scene is hilarious.) My only issue with this number is that I know they filmed a different, night club version with them in leather jackets and guyliner and seriously my kingdom for that footage. Still, I love what we get here. The song is fun and everyone sounds great. I still listen to this one all the time.
Okay, so this ep might be the first time Rachel and Artie hang out but somehow it works. She has been in NYC the longest and decides to take him under her wing to get comfortable in this new space. Does she know anything about his struggles? Well, no, but she has a song for it anyhow. I like her yellow hat (she’s a pop of sunshine), I love the train dancers, and their voices blend really well.
When Rachel has a solo that is rooted in a storyline it is always better. This one is an attack of the feels at the close of an excellent episode. Her voice as narrator is fitting in this and no one does Barbara like Rachel. The cut aways to connections they are making, bonds they are strengthening, and ways they are growing as they all finally get to be grown ups all resonate with the episode we just watched and the storylines that are to come. Wow, Glee, well done.
