2018: a woman climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July to protest migrant family separations. Officials began evacuating visitors from Liberty Island in New York Harbor after a woman climbed onto the base of the Statue of Liberty. Officers from the U.S. Park Police and the NYPD were on the scene trying to convince the woman to come down.

Staten Island Ferry

The Ferry operates between the St. George Ferry Terminal on Staten Island and the Whitehall Terminal in Lower Manhattan. The trip is about 25 minutes long. The Ferry is free. 

The City has operated the Staten Island Ferry since 1905. The Ferry carries over 23 million passengers annually on a 5.2-mile run between the St. George Terminal in Staten Island and the Whitehall Terminal in Lower Manhattan. The Ferry runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Staten Island Ferry is the most reliable form of mass transit, with an on-time performance of over 96 percent.

Manhattan Island is approximately 13.11 miles long, though other estimates put it at 13.4 miles long. The 13.11-mile distance runs from The Henry Hudson Bridge in the north down to Battery Park in the south.  Manhattan is only 2.3 miles wide, notes NYC The Official Guide. The borough is not very big, considering that the population was approximately 1.8 million people in 2015, according to the Department of City Planning for the City of New York. That is equal to about 67,000 people per square mile. The borough is divided into avenues, mostly running north and south, and streets that mainly run east and west.

It is the most populated of the five boroughs, and is one of the top tourist attractions in the United States. Times Square is one of the country's most famous tourist attractions, with approximately 50 million visitors each year.

It feels like only 5 to 10 degrees with the wind chill and the mercury is not budging. For the next two days, we’re expecting to be hit with the coldest weather of the season so far.

Upper New York Bay, or Upper Bay, is the traditional heart of the Port of New York and New Jersey, and often called New York Harbor. It is enclosed by the New York City boroughs ofManhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island and the Hudson County, New Jersey municipalities of Jersey City and Bayonne.

One World Trade Center shares its 16-acre site with other massive projects built at more or less the same time: the transportation hub, which links a series of underground trains that need to operate as work goes on around and above them; a subterranean vehicle-security center, atop which a park and church will eventually sit; the 9/11 Memorial, designed to be the site’s central gathering point while doubling as the roof of the vast belowground 9/11 Museum; and three other large office buildings.
