TRUMP’s TWIN TOWERS II Following September 11th, many New Yorkers sought to rebuild the Twin Towers, but with more structural strength. Team Twin Towers proposed rebuilding the towers with bioterrorism sensors and fireproof ceramic polymer coatings around the columns, floor beams and stairs. Similarly, the Twin Towers II proposal was nearly identical to the original design by Minoru Yamasaki, although with 115 stories—5 floors taller than the original. An above-ground memorial would have occupied the footprints of the original towers and three twelve-story postmodern buildings replacing 3, 4, and 5 WTC. The project was sponsored by Donald Trump who labeled the SOM/David Childs-designed Freedom Tower as "disgusting." The Freedom Tower was the winner of an international design contest sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. In media appearances, Trump criticized the proposed Freedom Tower, saying “It doesn’t represent what we want to have represented.
