NYPD Deploys Extensive Security Footprint The sheer volume of attendees, estimated in the tens of thousands, triggered one of the largest security deployments of the season. The NYPD had designated the day as the month’s first "Gridlock Alert Day," emphasizing the extensive frozen zone around the plaza designed to ensure public safety. Uniformed and plainclothes officers were visible throughout Rockefeller Plaza and the surrounding streets. Security measures included widespread street closures, effectively limiting vehicle traffic in the area bordered by 48th to 52nd Streets and from Sixth Avenue to Madison Avenue for several hours. Attendees reported a methodical and tight flow of pedestrian traffic, which was constantly monitored by police personnel.
A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that the goal was to "create an extremely safe place for families to come and enjoy the holiday season," confirming that crowd density and flow management were the primary operational focuses throughout the evening. Despite the massive attendance, the ceremony concluded without any major public safety incidents reported, testament to the coordinated effort between security officials and organizers. The tree will now remain lit daily from 5:00 AM to midnight until mid-January 2026, serving as the luminous centerpiece for New York City’s holiday celebrations.
