Consider this: another person involved with Edward and Oswald, someone with a crush on both of them, both times requited. It could be utter chaos! 😜
Oswald "life only gives you one true love" Cobblepot, who's already in an exited state because of his crush on Ed, having to question his mother's words.
Meanwhile Edward "I could never love you" Nygma is questioning everything. He loves Oswald, a man! But he likes him just as much as this other person.
If the other person was
a) a man or non-binary, Ed would be in even more denial: yes, he likes Oswald, who isn't a woman, but he also likes this other person who isn't either, and since romantic love is usually only between two people, that must mean that he doesn't really like either of them that way, right?
b) If on the other hand the other person was a woman (I haven't finished the show, but I read some people say that Oswald is/could be bi), Ed would focus on her and inevitably notice the way she looks at Oswald, which just so happens to be similar to the way Ed looks at him.
Upon seeing that Oswald likes her too, Ed being the compulsory heterosexual bi disaster (affectionate) that he is, wouldn't notice that his jealousy goes both ways: being directed at Oswald for having her affection yet also at her for having Oswald's attention.
c) on a third note: They could also just be happy and once they got together I think they'd be unstoppable.
Regardless of who the last person is, these two thrive from being loved by one person alone, make that two people and they're over the moon! 🥰
