I know his teammates and Babs are all saying the right things to the media but for crying out loud, do you really think they like him right now? The Leafs are playing some of the best hockey the franchise has played in like half a century, fighting hard for a good season and yeah it’s early blah blah but a successful playoff run, and they could be playing even better with him in the lineup. And what is he doing? Sitting out in Sweden over a few million dollars. A few million on top of the few million he will absolutely make.
Maybe I’m being dramatic but if you’re choosing the difference between 4/5 million and 7-9 million over your own teammates, your best friends, the sport you’re supposed to love playing, over the chance at winning a fucking Stanley Cup with dare i say the most passionate fans in the league.. what the fuck are you doing?
I think it shows a lot about his character and love of the game, and not in a good way. And that’s not an attitude I want in the locker room. I want guys like Marleau, who make you better just by walking to you (according to Babs) and Mitch who says fuck you to toxic masculinity by singing everywhere and Freddie who holds his team accountable no matter what. Not someone who is fine with missing all of this for money that’s mostly going to taxes anyway.
