Q+A: Nyssa Oru
Linework NW is at its heart a gathering of remarkable creators, editors, illustrators, cartoonists, and publishers who represent some of the best work that is being produced in these mediums today. Each day from now until the show we are going to be highlighting the amazing creators of Linework NW in a series of short interviews. Today’s Q+A, conducted by Kinoko Evans, will be spotlighting artist Nyssa Oru.
What were your earliest comics about? My very first comics were these terrible fantasy stories that I made in about sixth grade. I was obsessed with Elfquest and McCaffrey novels, so everything I made had these smudgy dragons and long flowing hair all over them. What is in your pencil case today? I carry around this Avengers lunchbox with a whole handful of supplies; granite sticks, charcoal, watercolor, gauche, inkers.
Do you keep a sketchbook? I keep 3-5 sketch books at any given time.
What kind of inspiration do you collect? Usually it's zines and childrens' books that I hold on to for inspiration. Also fabric, I have a really big collection of fabric scraps with awesome patterns.
What are you most excited about for Linework NW this year? I really just can't wait to see all the other artist exhibitors.
