While Dandruff can have several causes, including: * Irritated, oily skin (seborrheic dermatitis). * Not shampooing often enough. * Dry skin. * Sensitivity to hair care products (contact dermatitis) It is possible that you could be spreading a yeastlike fungus! Malassezia lives on the scalps of most adults. But, for some, it irritates the scalp and can cause more skin cells to grow.
The extra skin cells die and fall off, making them appear white and flaky in your hair or on your clothes. Why malassezia irritates some scalps isn't known. What we do know that by sterilizing and keeping our hair implements clean, we can stop the spread of this fungus to our other family members and for the pros, our clients! If you have dandruff, please don't share your combs, brushes and the like until it is controlled. Learn more about how to get this sneaky nuisance under control at "Trichology 911"!
