Three years ago, before my welcome week, I went through every event introduction on the guidebook and scheduled myself a very compact week, rushing from one building to another. There were small club activities on the streets, but I never had the time to stop and try any out. Until one day, my friend asked me to stop at a painting club with her. I was then given a small square white board, paints and a brush to draw anything I wanted. Never was a good painter, I nervously put several colors together and drew a simple heart. Although I felt a little embarrassed by my easy drawing, the club runner came to me and seemed to appreciate my picture. She asked me the reason to draw this shape and I said, “because my Chinese name contains a heart”. At that moment, I realized that there were people here who would encourage me to be myself, would love to spend some time to listen to my story, and would make me feel welcomed. Just stop and try and you won’t miss anything :) -Zoe, OL
