@770 Hart Street in Ridgewood, Brooklyn
8 PM
“On Friday, June 24, Paolo and I will read some poems and show two short films at Molasses Bookstore (770 Hart St) in Ridgewood, Brooklyn. Starting at 8 pm, Paolo will read from his new book O.B.B. (a postcolonial techno dream pop comics poem from Nightbook Press) then I will read from my book Year by Year Poems (Tender Buttons Press) along with some new work. We will also show our 2015 short poetry film Starfish Aorta Colossus along with my short film dedicated to poet Bernadette Mayer. Molasses is a splendid shop for bibliophiles from all walks of life, especially those who really dig a curated collection. The owner not only loves to read, he also runs a great bar with beer, wine and other drinkables, so we'll be hanging out for quite a while.” - Lynne Sachs

A food market and playground in Queens, NY becomes the site for this film inspired by Paolo Javier’s Original Brown Boy poems. The film itself transforms into an ars poetica/cinematica—a meditation on writing and making images in the liminal space between a global pandemic and what might come next—as five New York City performers speak in verse while wandering through food stalls in search of a new sensation. World Premiere!
