🍄Ruby bolete (lat. Hortibolétus rubéllus). An edible mushroom that has no poisonous counterparts. It prefers to grow in oak forests, it's rare.

The color of the hat is noteworthy. It depends on the age of the mushroom: at first, the hat is bright red, but as it grows, the shade becomes darker and more complex: wine, reddish-brown, cherry, with notes of olive or brown🍂

🍄Моховик красный или боровик, болет красный (лат. Hortibolétus rubéllus). Съедобный гриб, не имеющий ядовитых двойников. Предпочитает расти в дубравах, встречается редко.

Description

The scene is based on the chivalric romances that interpret the Poem of the Cid , specifically Romance XLIV from the Tesoro de Romanceros (Treasury of Ballad Collections), as the painting's title itself clarifies. The artist presented the work at the National Exhibition of 1871. Elvira and Sol were tied to separate oak trees after being stripped and whipped by their husbands, the Infantes of Carrión . These princes appear in the background on horseback, fleeing the oak grove of Corpes.
