Judge not by the size of the bowl, but by its contents. I thought this bowl of roast duck wonton noodle soup was tiny, its circumference contained in my two hands. Turns out it’s pretty deep, and the noodles have a magical swelling effect. I kept ladling up more wontons from the bottom, like 5 total, and a stash of Chinese broccoli stalks too. Satisfying and quick. Ran all my Chinatown errands this morn and was home by noon!

The bf suggested Pielogy for takeout pizza. It was storming, we were really on a lazy mode and did not want to leave the house. Saturday is for date night, though. Date night rules must not be broken. So I got dressed in sweats, yoga pants and Uggs, and we drove to Pielogy which just moved into the hood. I am trying it for the first time while the bf is a Pielogy veteran as he has one that is close to his office.
Click here for a cool video on their website on how Pielogy works.
You can custom-make your own pizza. You choose the sauce (pesto, white, tomato, etc). Add your cheeses, meats and veggies. Then they bake it for you in the oven.
They have Daiya Vegan Cheese for lactos like me.
The pizzas are personal size but they are big and (more than) adequate for a meal.
The pizzas are made with thin crust which is how I like mine.
I “made” a vegan pizza with Daiya cheese, artichokes and sundried tomatoes. The carnivore bf threw all kinds of meats on his pizza.
We took the pizzas home with us, lit the fireplace and continued watching Martin Scorcese’s “Gangs of New York” on Starz while enjoying our Pielogy.
A beautiful, stormy evening.
Cheap and delicious date night for just a little over $20 (And who says date nights need to be elaborate and expensive?!)
打っ掛け蕎麦, with A++ house made noodles, made fresh daily! Okay, fine, I’ll say it -- that’s BUKKAKE SOBA. I have a hard enough time saying that word on the radio, let alone ordering it off a menu. Good to reclaim it for its wholesome culinary uses, “splash on, pour [broth] over.” Which I did, with glee.
Korean jjajangmyeon done... vegan?? Well, I think it’s at least vegetarian, with shiitake mushroom and bean curd (instead of diced meats) in the thick black bean sauce. Waitress offered to stir my bowl as she did for my lunch companion’s dandan noodles, but I like mixing it myself because it’s part of what makes this dish so satisfying... transforming it from a murky pile of glistening gloop into an equally unphotogenic, but delicious mess.
Thinking of that Cheddar Brat from Rosamunde’s Sausage Grill at the Sausage Fest Block Party at Jack London Square a couple weeks ago. A bit of cheddar and juices oozed from the middle of the bratwurst, it was amazing!
