They had decided to collaborate for one of her videos. She was somewhat famous—not as much as him—but she was close to reaching a million on YouTube. As a celebration, she had contacted several famous people to collaborate with her, and the first one who confirmed was Cench.

After several days of talking, they met at her house to film.

Since Christmas was getting close, she had decided to buy some gingerbread house kits, and they would have to build and decorate them.

“I ain’t ever made a gingerbread house before, innit,” he admitted while opening the box.

“Me neither, I guess it’ll be our first time for both of us,” she replied.

Cench gave her a half–smile, glancing at her from the corner of his eye.

What she didn’t know was that he already knew her before she contacted him. Cench watched her videos every Sunday; he had been following her, you could say, since her early days. Even if it didn’t look like it, Cench was a bit nervous. Over time, he had developed a crush on her, and having her so close now made his heart beat a little faster.

She, however, barely knew him. She knew he existed, of course, but she didn’t usually listen to his music and didn’t follow him on social media until he said yes. She had chosen to email him partly because she always thought he was very attractive, but she didn’t expect him to accept—she didn’t even expect him to see the email. So when he said yes, she was very surprised.

During the video, neither of them could help glancing at each other. There was a tension between them that even the camera picked up.

“Do you like Christmas?” he asked, his eyes fixed on the little house in front of him. His hands squeezed the piping bag to decorate the roof, but it tore open.

She couldn’t help letting out a small laugh and nodded. “Yeah, I really like it. I think it’s my favorite holiday.”

Finally, he looked at her again. “I thought Halloween was your thing still.”

She looked at him with a slightly furrowed brow, confused. “Uh… well, I do like dressing up a lot, but I love how cozy Christmas feels more.” She paused. “How do you know that?”

Cench’s smile slowly faded into a nervous one, though he turned his head toward the gingerbread house and ran his tongue over his lips in a casual gesture.

“One of your vids popped up for me, calm.” He lied. He couldn’t exactly admit he waited every Sunday for her uploads… right?

Her frown disappeared and she smiled again. “Oh, that one went super viral. I loved dressing up as Coraline.”

“The short hair looked proper good on you, still,” Cench smiled. “Though I swear, anything you wear suits you still.” he murmured.

Was he trying to flirt with her? Definitely. She felt her cheeks warm up, and she could swear he saw the soft crimson color by the smile forming on his face.

“Ah… thank you,” she replied shyly.

“Blush suits you as well, you know.”

I feel like back in the 90s/2000s Oakley, Alienware, Bionicle, etc shared this absolutely PEAK tribal/industrial aesthetic that I have never seen drawn attention to or referenced in any way since.

Is there a name for this trend? It feels too edgy to be Y2K, and too whimsical to be Industrial Gothic. If this is some kind of nameless fusion, I personally dub it "Ancient Aliens".
